In the religious world, many believers live as victims of their circumstances, constantly begging God for a breakthrough or struggling under the weight of life’s pressures. However, the New Covenant reveals a much higher calling for the believer. Romans 5-17 (NKJV) declares a powerful spiritual law: “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

You were not born again to survive; you were born again to reign. To reign in life is to exercise authority over sin, lack, sickness, and the systems of this world. Here are seven ways to activate this ruler anointing through the abundance of grace.

1. Receive, Don’t Earn

The key to reigning is not in your performance, but in your “receiving.” The verse does not say those who achieve righteousness will reign, but those who receive the gift.

  • The Gift Mindset: You cannot reign as a king if you still think like a servant trying to earn a wage.
  • Abundance is the Standard: God does not give grace in “installments”; He gives it in abundance. You must open your heart to receive more than enough for every challenge.

2. Establish Your Identity in Righteousness

You cannot reign if you are “sin-conscious.” If you feel guilty and condemned, you will hide from the throne rather than sitting on it.

  • The Gift of Righteousness: Your standing with God is a gift, not a goal. When you know you are as righteous as Jesus is, you gain the boldness to command your circumstances.
  • A Solid Foundation: Righteousness-consciousness is the “platform” upon which your kingly authority rests.

3. Stop Toiling and Start Resting

Reigning is a position of rest. A king does not pace the floor in anxiety; he sits on a throne and issues decrees.

  • The Finished Work: Jesus sat down because the work was done. When you rest in His finished work, the power of God begins to flow through you.
  • Effortless Authority: True authority does not sweat; it speaks. Moving from toiling to receiving is the first step in exercising Kingdom dominion.

4. Use the Power of Your Decree

A king reigns through his words. Ecclesiastes 8-4 (NKJV) says: “Where the word of a king is, there is power.”

  • Speak to the Mountain: Grace provides the supply, but your mouth releases the command. You must speak to your finances, your body, and your family and command them to align with the Word.
  • Faith is a Speaking Spirit: You do not pray like a beggar; you decree like a ruler.

5. Take Dominion Over the Realm of Lack

Poverty is an “error” that keeps princes walking on the ground like servants. As a ruler in Christ, you have authority over the resources of this world.

  • The Wealth Transfer: Part of reigning in life is accessing the wealth of the sinner that is laid up for the just.
  • Lender, Not Borrower: Decree your identity as the head and the lender. Reject the slave mindset that accepts lack as “God’s will.”

6. Reign Over the Power of Sin

The reason sin shall not have dominion over you is specifically because you are “not under law but under grace” (Romans 6-14).

  • No Legal Ground: Under Grace, sin has no legal claim to your life. When you understand your identity, you stop “fighting” sin and start “reigning” over it as its master.
  • The Power of Nature: Your new nature hates sin. Reigning means allowing that new nature to dominate your physical members.

7. Enforce the Victory of the Cross

Jesus has already defeated every enemy; your job as a ruler is to enforce that victory in your sphere of influence.

  • Occupying Territory: You are not trying to get a victory; you are maintaining the victory Jesus already won.
  • Authority Over Sickness: Command sickness to leave your body and the bodies of those around you, based on the legal fact that “by His stripes, you were healed.”

Conclusion

Reigning in life is not a future hope for when you get to heaven; it is your current mandate for the here and now. The abundance of grace is the fuel for your authority, and the gift of righteousness is your legal right to the throne. Stop living like a victim of the “one man’s offense” and start living as a victor through the “much more” of Jesus Christ. You are a king; it is time to start reigning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does reigning mean I’ll never have problems?

Reigning doesn’t mean a lack of challenges; it means you have authority over the challenges. A king still has battles, but he expects to win them.

How do I “receive” more grace?

Grace is received through the hearing of faith. You receive it by constantly listening to the Gospel of Grace until it becomes the dominant reality in your mind.

Is it arrogant to say I’m a “ruler”?

No; it is biblical. It would be arrogant to try to reign in your own strength, but it is an act of worship to reign through the gift God has given you.

Can a “servant” become a “ruler”?

Under the Law, a servant stayed a servant. Under Grace, the servant is adopted as a son and immediately placed on the throne as a joint-heir with Christ.
