Privacy Policy — Leon du Preez App
Last updated: July 2026
Effective date: Upon app publication
1. Introduction
Welcome to the Leon du Preez app ("the App"), operated by Encounter Church, a church based in South Africa ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our App.
By downloading and using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
2. Information We Collect
a. Account Data
When you register for an account, we collect:
- Email address — used to identify your account and communicate with you
- Display name — shown on your profile
- Profile avatar — optional photo you choose to upload
This data is collected and stored via Supabase Auth, our authentication infrastructure provider.
b. Authentication via Third-Party Providers
Sign-in is managed by Auth0, our identity provider, which is shared across Leon du Preez apps so one account works everywhere. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive limited profile information (email and name) from those providers. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password. Authentication tokens are managed by Auth0, Google, and Apple respectively.
c. Subscription Data
If you purchase a subscription or content credits, we collect:
- Subscription plan type (Free or Premium)
- Purchase history — transaction IDs and dates
Subscription payments are processed by Apple (via the App Store) or Google (via Google Play). RevenueCat manages subscription entitlements on our behalf. We do not store your payment card details — these are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
d. Usage Data
To personalise your experience and sync progress across devices, we collect:
- Watch history — which sermons you have watched
- Playback position — where you left off in each sermon
- Sermon bookmarks — sermons you have saved to your library
- Engagement points (XP) — activity points earned in this app and in other Leon du Preez apps linked to your account, so your total is consistent everywhere
e. Bible Data
The App includes a Bible reader with annotation features. If you use these features, we collect and sync:
- Verse highlights — highlighted Bible verses and their colour categories (Promise, Prayer, Conviction, Heart)
- Bible bookmarks — bookmarked Bible verses
- Personal notes — notes you write on specific verses or verse ranges
Your Bible annotations are stored in our Supabase database and synced across your devices.
f. Device Information
We may collect basic device information for technical purposes including:
- Operating system version (iOS or Android)
- Device model
This information helps us diagnose technical issues and ensure compatibility.
g. Push Notification Tokens
If you grant permission for push notifications, we collect and store your push notification token via Expo Push Notifications. This token is used solely to send you:
- Notifications about new sermons from Prophet Leon du Preez
- Daily devotional reminders
- Streak-at-risk reminders (if your devotional reading streak is at risk)
You can withdraw notification permission at any time via your device settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalise the App experience — display relevant content, remember your preferences, and sync your progress across devices
- Process subscriptions and purchases — verify your entitlements and grant access to premium content
- Send push notifications — alert you to new sermons and devotional content (only if you have opted in)
- Sync your data across devices — ensure your Bible annotations, watch history, and bookmarks are available on all your devices
- Improve the App — understand how features are used so we can make the App better
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Supabase, a hosted database and authentication infrastructure provider. Supabase stores data on secure cloud infrastructure.
- All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS
- Passwords are not stored by us — authentication is handled by Google or Apple OAuth, or by Supabase Auth (which uses industry-standard password hashing)
- Access to your data is restricted by row-level security policies — you can only access your own data
While we take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, no system is 100% secure. If you have concerns about data security, please contact us.
