When Self-Confidence Is Lethal
Hebrews 10:35 “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward”.
I used to tell myself that Christian self-confidence is an oxymoron. That the words “Christian” and “self-confidence” did not belong in the same sentence. That was until I read the above verse and realised that true value and worth are built into our nature, according to His divine design.
You will never be able to outperform the level self-confidence that you have.
No man ever achieved greatness without confidence. In fact, a lack of confidence will stifle your future. Your relationships, your business, and even your relationship with God is strengthened according to your level of confidence.
The word, “confidence” in the Greek language has been formulated in such a way that it reflects a part of God. In other words, if somebody walks in confidence, it is an indication that they carry a divine quality of God.
Paul is giving a stern instruction to not throw your confidence away, because in it, you will find a reward. He recognised confidence as a weapon that could weaken an adversary. Confidence - like faith - is an invisible but powerful force that will give you the ability to create and establish a successful future. Self-confidence is an inner persuasion that you simply cannot fail. People may mistake it as arrogance, but in actual fact, it is a knowing of who you are in Christ.
The real power of confidence transcends our natural eye. Peter and John displayed an assurance that amazed their antagonists. Scripture says, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13 NKJV)
A lack of confidence is rife in the World today. People don’t know who they are, they don’t believe they’re capable of reaching their dreams, and many don’t dream at all. The fact is, if we want our confidence restored, we need to go to the Source of confidence! Acts 4 shows that Peter and John walked in such confidence that people knew these men had been with Jesus. There was no doubting it! People knew that this degree of boldness and confidence could not come from a human-source, but from Jesus alone!
Let’s seek Him like never before! As we do, may the confidence, the boldness and the surety of Christ consume us, and may unmatched success be the result.
