Give Him No Rest

Give Him No Rest

“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that are Jehovah’s remembrancers, take ye no rest,  and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” Isaiah 62: 6 - 7 (ASV)

The significance of this verse is that the Lord is the one speaking in this passage. God is sounding the alarm, calling the watchman on the walls to pray. Giving the  instruction that they should not give Him rest until He  answers.

This was a mandate unlike, any other. God calls upon His people to be restless, and to make the Lord Himself restless – to give Him no rest until they are established. By divine arrangement God has set His intercessors in their positions to, day and night, petition before Him until the supernatural is made manifest in the natural.

Oriental kings maintained an officer whose function was to remind the king of the promises which he had made previously. The court in England also appointed a Remembrancer to remind the officers of their duty. Now God has appointed His people to this eminent position as reminders to the King of kings.

By divine command, we have been given the mandate to keep God awake by reminding Him, day and night, of every promise He has made up until we see it coming into fulfilling.

God calls us not only to reason but to wrestle with Him in prayer as Jacob did and not let Him go without the blessing (Gen 32: 22-32). To be importunate with Him as the widow with the unjust judge (Luke 18: 1-5) thus to be incessant in prayer. Never to give Him rest.
