Day 26 - The Mark Of A True Believer
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye love one another.”
John 13:35 (NKJV)
Isn’t it amazing that of all the things Jesus could have chosen to pinpoint as the mark of a true believer, He chose LOVE? He didn’t choose to make the deciding factor how many hours you pray in a day, or how often you can fast, but He measured it by love.
This is a difficult concept for the religious mind to accept, but for the true sons and daughters of God - it’s simple. If you had asked the Pharisees of that day the same question, they would have told you about the washing of hands and how many times a day they pray. Yet, to God, all the good works that you do apart from love are considered completely useless.
This is because the ability to love is imparted to us when we receive the Holy Spirit. The scripture says in Romans 5:5 that the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. It is in the nature of a believer to love. It doesn’t matter how often you attend church or how many scriptures you know by heart, because without love, Jesus said that we ought to question whose disciple you really are.
“I am rooted and grounded in the love of God, because I am born of Him. Love is in my nature. As I love others, so shall my light shine, and lives shall be touched and changed everywhere I go.”
